Under the leadership of Mayor Ruding Santos Gonzales, the Local Government Unit of Mexico, Pampanga continues to advance sustainable and environmentally responsible governance through the strict implementation of local environmental policies.
The Municipality hereby reminds the public of the provisions of Municipal Ordinance No. 031-2016, which primarily aims to regulate the generation and use of plastic products and other similar wastes. This Ordinance seeks to reduce the volume and cost of solid waste management, promote the use of indigenous, reusable, and eco-friendly materials, encourage alternative containers, provide livelihood opportunities to communities, and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people and the environment.
MUNICIPAL ORDINANCE NO. 031-2016 – PLASTIC REGULATION ORDINANCE OF MEXICO
Section 6. Prohibited Acts
The following acts are strictly prohibited within the Municipality of Mexico, Pampanga:
1. Using, selling, distributing, and providing conventional plastic bags as packaging materials;
2. Using, selling and providing plastic bag as secondary packaging material on goods such as grocery items in supermarkets and “double plastic bag” practice;
3. Use of plastic pouch (commonly used for ice making) or plastic cups and straws for beverages such as carbonated drinks, “palamig” and “gulaman”; and
4. Using, selling and providing of polystyrene or “Styrofoam” packaging as containers for food and beverages.
